A new twist on Recessionista…

A part of me feels like I have failed yet again at this blogging thing.  An actual following of readers is way better than no one looking at all and I think that’s were I have been struggling.  I don’t even mind that people aren’t consistent, it just makes my job harder!

Some of the different blogs that I follow out here in cyberspace are more well known than the next. The exposure these sites are getting is ridiculous!  And all it seems to take is one person with a big mouth to spread the word throughout the world!

So, with that said.. I’m going to be changing the basis of this blog.  In the beginning, I had intended to focus mostly on how to re-use pretty much anything and create a totally new idea.  I am broadening that spectrum now with all things Recessionista, also known as anything and everything thrifty!

To go with my post from yesterday, this is something similar to what I was talking about.  Although this looks like it was actually knitted, it does still hold the same type of shape as a tube sock!

Sockings!

You can transform a pair of socks into two adorably cute “Sockings” for your holiday goodies! By using a pair of clean socks that you already have at home, combined with whatever else you have laying around… You and your kids can create something personal and FREE this holiday season. Whether you want to use the “socking” for a creative cookie packaging or for a pet’s holiday stocking, you can go in a plethora of different directions with this project! A cute idea I came up with is to tye dye the sock and sew random buttons in the shape of the first letter of your first name. If you want it to be festive and geared toward the holidays, snowflakes, gifts and the traditional red are foolproof designs that anyone would love!

Change your life today. Don’t gamble on the future, act now, without delay.

Black Friday

Black friday 2010 changed my life.  On that evening, my boyfriend was fatally shot and killed.  The day will be forever burnt in my mind.  There will never be an up-side to this…

Within the past year, I’ve learned to cope with the loss of someone who I truly loved and cared for.  Not having answers to any of the lingering questions that I had in my head was one of the harder things  to overcome.  It has not been easy and I still think about him every single day.  But also within this past year, I’ve begun to live for myself and no one else.  When it all boils down to it, YOU are all YOU have.  So why not make the absolute most of it?!

This got me thinking on my own last night and I come into work only to find an article on the Yahoo finance page similar to my thoughts the night before.  The article featured six self- made, rags to riches millionaires as well as their words of advice for any young entrepreneur.

The devastating loss that I suffered last year will push me forward so I can continue the life I was meant to lead. Taking the right precautions, acting on the right feelings, along with striving for the best at all times, thinking positive and remaining true to myself will ultimately be the backbone for my success.

Some beautiful Thanksgiving tablescapes…

Happy Thanksgiving!

While I know you are all preparing in some sort of way, please take the time to give thanks for what means most in your life.  We forget to do that so often, with busy schedules and jobs and activities… no one takes the time to remember whats really important, and sometimes then it is too late.

I lost someone very close to me almost exactly one year ago today. And I am blessed to say that I had the opportunity to tell him how much I truly appreciated him on Thanksgiving last year.  So, in turn, wherever you are, whoever you are, take a minute to tell those you love that you are thankful for and appreciate them.

What Time Are We Eating?

As a twenty four year old, I still ask what time the meal is going to be served, so I can only imagine how much of an eternity it seems for the little ones!  This Thanksgiving, give them something to do that’s away from the cooking, hot pots and pans & your beautifully decorated table scape.

Have your kids make Thanksgiving Necklaces with dyed uncooked pasta!  You can even prepare the pasta a few weeks in advance…

What You Need:

Uncooked pasta, assorted shapes

Food coloring

Ziploc bags

Rubbing alcohol

Wax paper

Sturdy string

Scissors

What You Need To Do:

With uncooked pasta already in the ziploc bag, pour the rubbing alcohol over the pasta, coating each piece.

Drop several drops of the food coloring to coat each piece.  Repeat for every color that you want to use.

Once you have your desired color, drain the liquid and pour uncooked pasta onto a sheet of wax paper to dry. (do not rinse)

Cut the string long enough for the kids to handle and also long enough so they can take it off easily.

Thread dyed, uncooked pasta onto the string in any design that you want!

This will entertain the kids at your Thanksgiving table so the adults can do the dirty work!
